A NOTE FROM PASTOR AILEEN – September 15, 2020
It has now been six months since the pandemic began. I have been encouraged by the strength and adaptability of this congregation. When we had a pantry full of food to cook a meal that could not be served, we became a thriving emergency food cupboard. When we could not gather in the sanctuary to worship, we began lifting our prayers and singing God’s praises online. When we could not hold our hands out to receive the Eucharist, we stood in circles with our families and served one another the body and blood of Christ. When we could not meet for prayer, we began Face Book devotions, written, sung and spoken.
Now, at this six month mark, I am curious as to what is most helpful to you. In which of our offerings of prayer, worship and service are you participating? Have you been able to join us for worship? Are you able to safely acquire the elements for communion? Do you feel fed and comforted by our online devotions? Is there anything that we are missing?
I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to call or email me with your comments and suggestions. I know the pandemic is far from over, and I have every confidence that we will continue to be a strong witness for the mercy of Christ for and with one another.
Last weekend I was overjoyed by the number of volunteers to help receive school supplies as well as the volume of supplies donated. Please remember that this week we continue receiving supplies for children heading back to school. There will be a team of people at the church on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 to help unload your car. A pandemic cannot stop us from “God’s Work, Our Hands.”
I am also excited about another adaptive ministry: Confirmation! Yes, it’s that time of year again to think about gathering our young people. This year we will participate in a Conference wide confirmation program with youth from other ELCA churches in our area. I am very excited about this and hope that our youth will enjoy getting to know other young people as we engage on Zoom. If you have a confirmation age youth (grades 6-8) and you have not received an email from me, please be in touch so that your child may be added to the list.
Again, please write or call me with your feedback. And please check out our online presence on Face Book.

Sunday Night Study is being held by Zoom through October 18 at 7 pm. Mindful Meditation with Joyce Callen each Thursday after Chair Yoga. We begin at
9:45 am and end at 10:05. During this very stressful time more people are curious about Mindful Meditation. Ripples of Wellness offers the opportunity to practice Mindful Meditation after Chair Yoga. In the meantime take this 5 minute break: Sit up straight in a chair with feet flat on the floor. Place hands together in front of you like your praying. Inhale, expanding your belly, as you lift your hands, reaching for the ceiling. Exhale bringing your straight arms down to your side. Repeat 4 times.
Sunday worship continues to be available to everyone at 10 am through the Internet or the phone. The links are the same for each week. If you have an internet connection, join via Zoom using this link: us04web.zoom.us/j/573579627
If you do not have internet access, you can listen to the service by dialing 270-2524. After the greeting, enter the conference ID of 291-1296 followed by the # key. At the prompt, state your name, and then press the # key again. If you are not able to join worship at 10 am, the service is recorded and can be accessed through Messiah’s Facebook page. Coffee hour will also be held after worship via zoom, using the following link https://us04web.zoom.us/j/367670353
