Confirmation

Confirmation is a rite in the Lutheran Church that is marked with the Affirmation of Baptism in a worship service. Prior to this rite, youth in grades 6 and up are invited into a two year preparation involving classes, service and a week long Confirmation Camp at Lake Chautauqua Lutheran Center.

Classes:
Year A:
Using the Echo Bible Curriculum, youth explore the themes and narratives of scripture from Genesis through Revelation. They hear the overarching stories of the patriarchs and matriarchs of the Bible and then are invited to retell them in their own words using art, poetry, technology. At the end of the year they have learned how God consistently calls God's people to lives of love and service grounded in the grace, mercy and steadfast love of God as shown most explicitly in Jesus Christ.

Year B:
Using the Colaborate Curriculum, youth explore Lutheran History and Theology. The materials are interactive as they discuss topics such as grace, justification, faith and digest the meaning of the Ten Commandments, Baptism, Communion, The Creeds and the Lord's Prayer for their lives. During this year they are invited to situate themselves in God's plan of salvation for the world.

Service Opportunities:
Over the years the confirmation class has worked side by side with the disciples of Messiah in serving meals for Famly Promice of Grater Rochester, walking the CROP Walk, assisting with worship. Each year the students are invited to participate fully in the life of Messiah as they experience being full members of the Body of Christ.

Confirmation Camp:
For one week in July, students gather with other confirmation classes across the Synod at LCLC, our ELCA Camp. The week is spent in learning groups, fellowship and worship while experiencing the larger church. Youth reside in cabins and make new friendships that often last a lifetime. Scholarships are available to help offset the cost.

Affirmation of Baptism:
Upon completion of classes, students are Confirmed in the spring of their second year on the Festival of Pentecost.
